Limits and quirks

Every limit in one place, and the quirks worth knowing: long chats, what Gluon can't read or do, time zones, and limits per feature.

Gluon keeps a chat’s whole history, but a model can only read so much at once. When a chat grows long, Gluon first shortens the output of older tool steps, then summarizes older messages, keeping the most recent ones word for word. Before summarizing, your Gluon saves lasting facts about you from what you typed, if memory is on.

  • The summary keeps decisions, findings, names and pending work, but details from early in a very long chat can be lost. Start a new chat for a new topic, and ask Gluon to recall an old one when needed.
  • Large files and many images fill the space fastest. Ask Gluon to look at big batches of images a few at a time.
  • Scanned PDFs: there’s no OCR, so a scanned page without a text layer can only be looked at as an image.
  • Just Bash is simulated: no internet, Python, Node, git or installing packages. Gluon uses the paid Linux workspace for those, in private chats only.
  • Web reading doesn’t run JavaScript or sign in; use rendering or the browser.
  • The browser can’t upload or download files, run its own scripts or export your sign-ins.
  • Email only goes to your allowed addresses, and Gluon’s address only receives from them.
  • Delegated tasks can’t ask you questions or hand you the browser.
  • Groups: your Gluon uses the group’s calendar, drive, inbox and expense ledgers there, not your private ones, and has no browser or Linux workspace.
  • Changing your files or mail: Gluon reads them, but creates and edits files only in its workspace. What it deletes goes to the trash.
  • Repeats more often than daily, or several times a day in one item, aren’t supported.

Gluon uses the time zone your device reports when you open the app. Until it knows, it asks before scheduling. If times look wrong, open Gluon on the device whose time zone you want, or tell Gluon your time zone.

A model that sends nothing for 10 minutes is stopped, and the chat shows the failure; send your message again. Long replies that keep streaming are never cut off.

Gluon limits how fast and how much anyone can do, so one account, script or runaway agent can’t crowd out everyone else. Everyone gets the same limits. When you reach one, Gluon says what was limited and when to try again. A message you send is refused before it’s saved, so send it again then; messages waiting in the queue are held, as after Stop, until you send each.

  • Scheduled tasks refused by a limit finish as failed for that time; the next one runs as usual.
  • Background reports wait and run once there is room again.
  • Tool calls that fetch from the web, read files, search the guide or use an MCP server fail for a few seconds when too many arrive at once; Gluon sees why and can try again.
