Drive
Your drive and your groups' drives: files and chat attachments, Gluon's workspace, the trash and restoring, what Gluon can read and change, previews, sharing to groups, temporary download links, and storage space and warnings.
You have one drive, and each of your groups has one. A drive holds a scope’s files, chat attachments and Gluon’s Just Bash workspace in one place, and counts them against one storage limit. Mail is kept apart, in your inbox, with its own storage and its own Deleted emails.
Sections
Section titled “Sections”Drive in the main navigation lists your drive beside the open file, with a search, one chip per section and a Trash button beside the filters:
- Files: your private files and the files in your groups. Each row shows a thumbnail or the file’s type, its name, size and date; a group’s file also carries the group’s name. Choose a file to preview it beside the list; on a phone it opens as its own page, and Back returns to the list as you left it.
- Chat attachments: images and files attached to your chats, in a folder named after each chat.
- Workspace: what Gluon made in its Just Bash workspace, in its folders. Move to Files keeps a file; deleting here is for good.
- Trash: what was deleted, kept for 30 days. Choose the Trash button to open it, and choose it again or a chip to leave.
In Chat attachments and Workspace, choose a folder to open it in the list. Inside a folder, its path takes the chips’ place: choose any folder in the path to go back up, or the section’s name to return to its top and the chips.
The filter button beside the search narrows the list:
- File type: All, Photos or Documents.
- Whose files: Everyone’s, Mine or one group. Pick a group to see only its files and upload straight to it; uploads from Everyone’s or Mine are private.
A dot marks the button while a filter is on. Chat attachments are always yours. Workspace and Trash show one drive, so their Whose files offers only Mine or a group: your drive, or the drive of the group you picked.
The open file, the open folder, the section and your filters are part of the page’s address, so reloading, going back or sharing the link opens the same view.
A group’s Drive tab shows the group’s files, where every member can upload.
Uploading and sharing
Section titled “Uploading and sharing”- Each file can be up to 25 MB. A file with the same name as one already there is kept beside it, as “name (2)”.
- Upload is at the top of the list in Files, the only section that takes uploads. After an upload Drive says “Uploaded to Files.” and marks the new file in the list, clearing a search or type filter that would hide it.
- Share to a group copies a private file into the group. The copy is separate: deleting your original doesn’t remove it.
- Every group member can read and upload the group’s files. Only the uploader or the group owner can delete one. Files stay with the group when their uploader leaves.
Deleting a file or an attachment moves it to the trash, whether you delete it or Gluon does. Deleted emails go to the inbox’s own Deleted emails instead. Open Trash and choose an item to preview it beside the list, under a header with its type, size and when it was deleted, and its actions:
- Restore puts it back where it was. A file lands beside one of the same name as “name (restored)”.
- Delete forever deletes it for good, after you confirm.
Empty trash, at the top of the list, deletes everything in it after you confirm. A deleted folder can’t be previewed; restore it to open what it holds.
After 30 days items are deleted on their own. The trash counts toward your storage until then.
- Deleting a chat moves its attachments to the trash, and they can’t be restored once the chat is gone.
- Workspace files are the exception: deleting one deletes it for good.
- In a group’s trash, members restore or delete what they could have deleted: their own files. The owner can restore or delete anything.
Storage space
Section titled “Storage space”Each drive, yours and each group’s, holds 5 GB of files, attachments and the workspace, counting the trash. Its database, which keeps small files, folders and the search index, has its own 500 MB limit, which you only hear about if it nears full.
The Storage bar at the foot of the list in Drive shows how full the drive you’re looking at is, such as “7.3 MB of 5 GB”, and a banner appears once either limit passes 80%. On a phone it comes after the files. Sizes in Drive are in KB, MB and GB.
- Warnings. When a drive passes 80% of either limit, and again past 95%, Gluon sends a notification. Your drive warns you; a group’s drive warns the group’s owner. Gluon’s workspace tools also say when the drive is nearly full, so it can tell you.
- When it’s full, uploads and new files fail with a message naming the limit. Deleting and emptying the trash always work and free space at once.
- Cost. Each drive’s storage is charged daily to its owner: yours to you, a group’s to the group’s owner. See Credits and usage. Your usage lists it as Drive file storage (files, attachments and your Linux workspace’s backup) and Drive database, and your inbox as Email storage and Email database, priced in Prices. When you’re out of credits you can still download, delete and empty the trash, but not upload.
What Gluon can read and change
Section titled “What Gluon can read and change”Ask “read the PDF I uploaded” or “what does the lease say about pets?” Gluon reads your
files, your mail and its attachments, and your chat attachments with its
workspace tools, which see them as folders: /files, /mail and
/chats. /mail is your inbox, shown read-only. The Files and Mail permissions decide whether it may; see
Permissions.
- Gluon creates and edits files only in its workspace,
/workspace. It can’t add or change a file in Files, an email or an attachment, so mail and uploads always show what was really sent or uploaded. - Gluon can delete a file, an email or an attachment when you ask, such as “delete the old passport scan from my Drive”. A file goes to the trash and an email, after asking you, to Deleted emails; only you restore them. In a group Gluon deletes only what you could delete yourself: files you uploaded, or any if you own the group. Copies shared elsewhere stay.
| File | How Gluon reads it |
|---|---|
| Images (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP) up to 3 MB | Sees the image |
| PDFs up to 10 MB and 100 pages | Sees the pages, or reads their text five pages at a time |
| Text, CSV, JSON, Markdown and code | Reads the text |
Gluon reads the text of PDFs up to 8 MB. Scanned PDFs without a text layer can only be read as images; there’s no OCR for their text. Long documents are read in parts, and Gluon tells you when something was cut off. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 can’t take PDFs directly, so it reads their text instead.
Gluon treats what’s inside files and mail as information, never as instructions to follow.
Showing and saving files
Section titled “Showing and saving files”- Gluon can show a file beside the chat without reading it, such as “show me the insurance PDF”. Showing publishes nothing.
- To keep a file Gluon made, such as a report, open it from Workspace in Drive and choose Move to Files, or use Save to Files on the side panel’s Sandbox tab.
Previews
Section titled “Previews”Choose a file in any section of Drive to preview it beside the list, under a header with its type, size and date and its actions:
- In Files: Download, Share to group and Move to trash.
- In Workspace: Download, Move to Files and Delete.
- In Chat attachments: Download and Move to trash.
- In Trash: Restore and Delete forever.
On a phone, when there are more than two, all but Download are in the header’s menu.
Ask Gluon about this file, at the foot of an open file in any section but Trash, shows the file as a chip with its name and says where Gluon will reply. Your question is sent with that chip, so Gluon reads the file without you naming it. A question about a file in your drive starts a new chat with it already sent; one about a group’s file goes to that group’s chat as an @Gluon mention.
Quick actions above that box fit the file: Summarize and Key points for documents, spreadsheets and text, and Describe and Extract text for images. Each writes a ready request into the box for you to edit, and nothing is sent until you press send. Audio and video have none, because Gluon can’t listen to or watch them.
Files in a group’s Drive tab and attachments in chats open in the side panel. Previews show:
- PDFs, images, audio and video;
- Excel, CSV and TSV as a grid with sheet tabs, and Word documents as pages;
- Markdown rendered, and code highlighted;
- HTML and SVG rendered safely: no scripts run and nothing loads from the internet.
Other files, such as PowerPoint, offer Download.
Temporary download links
Section titled “Temporary download links”Some services, such as a printer you connected, need to download a file without signing in to Gluon. Gluon can create a temporary link for a file:
- Anyone holding the link can download the file until it expires, so it asks for your approval by default.
- Links last from 1 minute to 7 days; one hour by default. Ask for the shortest that works.
- The file is copied when the link is made, so later edits don’t change it. The copy is kept with the chat’s attachments.
- You can have up to 30 unexpired links, each for a file up to 8 MB.
- Deleting the chat the link came from revokes it at once. Copies already downloaded can’t be recalled.
To just look at your own file, ask Gluon to show it instead; that creates no link.
