Notifications and Needs you

Push notifications for replies and group messages, the Needs you list for approvals, reminders and invitations, muting chats and groups, and message previews.

Open Settings → Notifications and switch on Push notifications for this device, then use Send a test to check it works; it stays unavailable until push is on. Each device is turned on separately, and each change shows Saved once it took effect, or Retry if it didn’t.

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work once Gluon is installed on the home screen.

  • Replies in your private chats and new messages in your groups, like a messaging app. A newer message replaces the older notification for the same chat or group.
  • Needs you items: approvals, reminders, invitations and updates Gluon sends you, including credit alerts.
  • Storage warnings, once when a drive passes 80% of a storage limit and again past 95%; a group’s drive warns its owner. Emptying the trash in Drive frees space.

Nothing is pushed for the chat or group you’re looking at on any of your devices, and reading on one device quiets the others.

Show message previews (on every device) shows who wrote what. Turn it off to show only the chat or group name and “New message”. It only matters on devices with push on, so while push is off on the device you’re using, the setting is dimmed with a note; you can still change it for your other devices.

Needs you collects what waits for you. Its two newest items show above the chat list; View all opens the full list, with filters for Approvals, Reminders and Invites, and Done today.

Item Buttons
Approval Approve or Deny, or open the chat
Reminder Done, or Later to snooze it
Invite Join or Decline
Update Done or Open

Later offers in 1 hour, in 3 hours, this evening, tomorrow or a custom time. Snoozing a calendar reminder makes Calendar send it again at that time.

A confirmation reminder’s push has Done and Snooze 1 hour buttons on devices that support them.

Items you finish move to Done today. Items that can no longer be acted on, such as an expired invitation, leave the list by themselves.

In a private chat, your Gluon can tell you what’s waiting in Needs you (“What needs me today?”) and show the items with a link to the list. It can mark an update done or snooze it until a time you name (“Snooze the trip update until tomorrow evening”). Approvals, reminders and invitations stay yours to answer: your Gluon never approves its own requests. To be reminded of something later, ask for a reminder instead.

Your Gluon can also turn message previews off, or on: turning them on always asks you first, since message text would then show on every device’s lock screen. In groups, your Gluon doesn’t read or change your Needs you.

Mute a chat or group from its menu or the bell in its header, for 8 hours, 1 week or Always. A muted chat or group keeps its unread count but sends no message notifications and doesn’t count on the app badge.

  • In a muted group you’re still notified when someone mentions you with @Your name, replies to your message, or when your own Gluon replies.
  • Needs you items, such as approvals, are never muted.
  • To put a private chat out of sight instead, use Done or Snooze.

The app’s icon and the tab title count unread chats and groups plus open Needs you items.
